Hardin County in Illinois rethinking hosting big events
In Southern Illinois, Hardin County is thinking of requiring large gatherings such as biker events to pass an grounds inspection by the county health department before an event.
While this initially sounds like a good idea, it seems that this is going to be the way the county curtails large gatherings by not granting permission mere days before an event.
This will effectively curtail large events because event planners will be unwilling to bet that they will be able to get permission from the county health department.
Many biker events are not even set up for anyone to see until a couple of days before the event making health inspections almost impossible. Vendors and outdoor toilets are usually brought in the day before the event also.
It will be interesting to see if this proposed ordinance is passed and how they consider setting up the ground inspection requirements and what is the cutoff for a “large groups.”
