Can a motorcycle cause cancer? Or is this just a scam?
I will leave it to you to decide, but if you go to www.motorcyclecancer.com, the website claims that motorcycles could be a leading cause of why bikers get certain types of cancers. On their website they claim that:
Motorcycles can shoot potentially carcinogenic electromagnetic (EM) energies into the rider as a “Death Shower†from below. This increases the risk of developing lymphomas, leukemia or cancers of the prostate, testicle, colon, bladder, kidney, liver, pancreas, stomach, etc. Both the heart and immune system are also at risk, susceptible to disorder or malfunction. Infertility, sexual dysfunction, erectile deficiency or loss of libido may also be side effects of groin exposure to this radiation.
But do not worry about this because the website also claims that they have a solution to your problem:
As explained in my book, I am talking about shielding a variety of strange, stubborn and penetrating motorcycle electromagnetic phenomena. ELF EMF radiation magnetic field properties penetrate through all conventional materials including steel and even lead! Only special manufactured material can shield us from these forces. Why should any of us gamble with a risk of illness or cancer when we can dramatically shield our groins from these controversial “death rays†shooting up right between our legs?
It’s called “Electromagnetic Seat Shielding†and I hold the first patents pending in various countries around the world. I call it “peace of mind†in lieu of all the controversy. My goal is to ensure that EM shielding seats are available for everyone and for all motorcycle models, brands, years, etc. As shown in the photo, the special shielding is secured onto the seat shell, under the foam, during construction. Existing seat custom retrofitting is another option where possible. When purchasing a regular seat of your choice, from any motorcycle seat dealer, the option of built-in electromagnetic shielding is simply an additional cost to the original seat price.
While I am not a scientist and I have never tested any motorcycle for EMF radiation, it is safe to say that any electronics can produce EMF. It is a byproduct of electronics that have not been properly shielded to emit radio waves just like every other bit of electronics you own. Stators on motorcycles are of course large electronic devices pumping out lots of energy and they are sitting right beneath you while you are riding. If you add all the other electronics for your controls, ABS, stereo and lights you can soon see why the website says that we are possibly getting hit by alot of EMF.
The question raised by the website is of course, whether or not the amount of excess EMF is enough to raise your chances of getting cancer.
The reason I ask if this is a scam, is that not only does the website tell you about this problem, but they have a book and a solution that you can purchase from them to solve this problem. It is kinda convienent that not only does the website bring up the issue but then wants you to buy the book and the solution from them.
Whatever your head tells you, this website is good for raising awareness for something that we might never think of. As with many types of things that are harmful, the invisible ones tend to be less on our radar than those that are visible. So bikers wear their leathers and helmets(well at least some) because they see the threat everyday on the road and in the news but I do not think that many of us are concerned about things like EM fields and their impact on our lives because we just cannot see them. Â
Take a look at the site and consider for yourself what they say.
