Hollister’s future a little in doubt in coming years

Hollister’s rally has been held on San Benito Street for awhile but the future of it continuing there is in doubt. The City of Hollister is expected to take ownership of the street back from CalTrans in the next year or two. When that happens the Hollister annual motorcycle event will likely be forced to move.

Luckily for all those that love this event, just because they may have to move the street that the rally blocks off, it does not mean that Hollister will be totally shutdown,  it may just mean less vendors and a different part of town that you will be visiting the next time you go.

With the economic impact motorcycle events have like Hollister, the city council is sure to take a good long look before even thinking about cancelling the event and will probably just find a way to move it to somewhere that can accommodate the large biker crowds and the good times that it brings to the city.

But there is already some bad news for next years rally:

“We’re losing the Fremont School area next year, so I’m going to have to find a place to put the 60 or so vendors who set up there,” he said. “Really, all my decisions are at the mercy of the police chief and the city manager.”

Doulton’s reference to the Fremont School area coincides with that location potentially being the future site of the San Benito County Courthouse - if seismic trenching work currently under way results in a stamp of approval there.

Times change and so do rallie but hopefully they will be able to find other areas in town that will be able to keep the crowds coming.
