informal Harley-Davidson survey says times are better
TickerMine recently did a informal survey of Harley-Davidson dealerships and 75% of dealers that responded said sales had jumped. 64% of dealers said that business was up from last year sales numbers.
With the high price of gas eating at everyone’s pocketbook, this report is not so surprising to hear because all types of scooter and motorcycle dealers have seen an increase in business. People are finding that the monthly payment of a motorcycle is well worth it because it is cheaper than their gas bill for their fuel guzzling cars and trucks.
If you do the basic math, a car getting 15 miles per gallon driving two hundred miles a week uses about 53 gallons of gas per 4 weeks. At $3.75 per gallon this means that the car costs about $800 a month in gas.
But even if you factor in a $200 monthly bike payment, the motorcycle comes out alot cheaper. If the motorcycle gets 40 miles per gallon, the motorcycle only uses 20 gallons of gas per 4 weeks. This means the cost of the motorcycle payment and gas only come to around $275 per month to ride.
Whatever reason is causing the better sales for Harley-Davidson, this just means that H-D sales forecasts might be improving and stock owners might see some better numbers this quarter.
