Sons of Anarchy proves it name
In the series first episode, two buildings and numerous cars are destroyed, six people die, a club war begins. Not bad for just the first hour of a series that is sure to draw many people to watch an outlaw motorcycle club on television.
Charlie Hunman, Ron Perlman and Katey Sagal all showed their darker sides in this new series and definetly showed that they knew how to act. They did not take long to establish the fact that they are not playing the good guys in this new series. Even Katey’s character joined in the carnage by offering a overdose to the mother of ‘Jax’ Teller’s child by giving her the choice of going out high on drugs or never seeing her child. Katey’s character Gemma, proves that even though she does not wear the vest of the club, that she truly is part of it and wants to make sure that it survives.
But the real question about this series is the impact it will have on the general public when it comes to bikers of all types and just not motorcycle club members. With their portrayal of bikers in such a evil light, the general public may become more fearful of people that they do not understand.
Many people that do not ride, do not understand that motorcycle clubs such as the Sons of Anarchy are not the norm and certainly the things they do in the series are not even the norm for clubs that do things like that. While the Sons of Anarchy looks to be a good show, it could be too good and cast the biker community into a very bad light.
Only time will tell if the show will have an overall negative spin on the motorcycle community and ultimately if it sours relationships between cagers and bikers. I just wish that just like the Law and Order series, that a disclaimer in front of the show would say that what you are about to see is not the true reflection of life and most bikers are not like this at all.
If you want to know more about the series, check out their website www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/soa/#Nav/Homepage. You can find out alot about the show and the actors. The site is well done with some good pictures and video and provides some good history of the Sons of Anarchy.
Personally I will keep watching this series and hope that Jax eventually leads the club to a bit more moderate pace than the one they have set in the first episode. I also hope that this will not bleed over into the real world and destroy the work of bikers that have tried to improve relations with cagers.
