Does a slogan ”Ride Safe-Ride Smart” make sense to bikers?

Delaware has started a new motorcycle education program in the hopes of reducing motorcycle deaths. So far this year, 15 bikers have lost their lives on Delaware roads. While educating bikers does seem like a good deal is it really the best way to save bikers lives?

Most accidents occur from cagers making left hand turns in front of bikers. Many of these accidents are fatal or at least the biker is injured. Maybe we need to educate the people driving SUV’s and other types of cars rather than the bikers.

Maybe a better phrase to teach car drivers is something like “Look twice before a left turn.” While better education is needed for bikers, maybe adding something to the driving test about motorcycles is a better way to save a life or even adding it to driver education courses.

While the slogan is catchy,”‘Ride Safe-Ride Smart” just does not look like it will help bikers out when they are on the road.
