Loss of right of way in Maryland fines and penalty increase

Drivers failing to give the right of way in Maryland used to have a $150 fine imposed on them but now after a string of motorcycle deaths, the fine has been increased to try and discourage drivers from causing more accidents.

An SHA statement says drivers who fail to yield the right of way and cause a serious crash could pay $1,000 in fines and have their license suspended. The previous penalty was $150 for failing to yield the right of way and there was no specific penalty for causing injury or death.

Maybe now with the new fine and supension, people may take more time when they are changing lanes or driving in general to make sure that their path is clear when their license is at risk.  But no matter where you are driving or the penalty, you should always be on the lookout for a fellow biker.
