More woes for Myrtle Beach Bikers

Horry County has thrown in on the side of Myrtle Beach and has already began the voting process for several new limits for biker rallies.

The committee of several Horry County Council members voted against allowing vendors in parking lots and to not allow businesses that do not meet current parking standards to host vendors.

The committee also recommended limiting the time of vending permits from their current 10 days to five days, requiring special event permits for all outdoor activities and beefing up security for those events.

These limits combined with the already passed ones in Myrtle Beach may now drive out the vendors or even raise the price of available vendor slots. With an expected 25% reduction in the available vendor spots available under the proposed ordinances, some building owners may raise the rent in order to recover lost income during biker rallies.

An even greater impact that has not really been discussed is the lack of jobs for people and how the hospitality industry will staff for biker rallies. The economic impact of losing bikers will really be felt by those that depended on the summer jobs to help them through the year or for even students looking for part time work during the summer.

If Myrtle Beach does not have an unemployment problem now, these series of restrictions on biker events could be the cause of next years long lines at the employment office.
