H-D dealer falls in rough economic times

With the economy suffering through hard times this year, it comes as no surprise that motorcycle dealers are feeling the effects of it. Even though motorcycle sales have grown for many different dealerships, it can be hard to sell motorcycles above the $10,000 mark. Most people this year seemed to be looking for economical and high gas mileage motorcycles.

Santa Cruz Harley-Davidson had been suffering because of the economy and was forced to close after having a sale with 50% off discounts.

Funds were so tight that the “End of the World” sale, which featured 50 percent markdowns last weekend, was needed to pay salaries. The sale originally had been planned as a holiday season kickoff with 20 percent savings.

While this is not the first Harley-Davidson shop to close because of low sales, it could be the one of the first indicators that more dealers may soon follow.

But while it might be bad news for the dealership, if more close, it might mean good deals for customers. But even if other dealerships are not ready to close, they may still have some killer sales to keep sales up over the last part of the year.

It is unknown what will happen to  Santa Cruz H-D unique muesum, while it is part of the dealership, maybe it will find its way to another Harley shop or it will get sold to someone that will keep it alive.
