When buying a motorcycle is too good of a deal

A couple has recently found out that in Australia you cannot buy a Ducati motorcycle for $4000. But you can be scammed out of the money quite easily. A repeat scammer was able to convince a couple that  he could buy “discounted” items through a international airport through customs and instead pocketed the money.

But when they accompanied him to the airport, he allegedly took the money and explained he would buy it for them in an area where members of the public were not allowed. He allegedly left them his mobile phone and a clipboard of documents – and did not return.

While everyone wants to get a good deal on a motorcycle, you have to make sure that the “good” deal is really that. In this case, the con man had what could have seemed to be a reasonable excuse for where he was getting the goods from, but the tell is the fact that he approached them for the “deal.”

It is one thing to trust someone you know with getting you an employee discount and it is certainly a whole different game when you give money to a complete stranger.  Always be wary of anyone approaching you and saying they have a way to save you money. Just asking the right questions may not be enough and even if they have the goods, it may even be stolen.
