8 more states planning for banning texting while driving
It is ironic that almost every state now has a ban on talking on your cell phone but not using the cell phones for other things. I just wonder if they will have to make it illegal to surf the web or watch a movie on your cell phone while you are driving too since it seems that people just are not getting the fact that using a cell phone while driving is dangerous for them and for the people around them.
We all know how rough the road is when people drive distracted around us and soon we may have one less hazzard to deal with in several more states. Currently many states have laws that ban people from talking on their cell phones while driving but a even bigger danger of texting while driving has been legal in most states.
10 states currently have anti-texting laws and with the upcoming other 8 states, bikers may be safer than ever before when surrounded by cagers. The movement of banning texting while driving may really be hit home though in one state where the penalty could be up to 15 years if you are caught texting and kill someone.
With the push to get people completely off their cell phones and paying more attention to the road, hopefully this will reduce motorcycle involved crashes when the cager is distracted by other things. But as technology advances, other devices will surely come around to drivers that will once again distract them from what they should be paying attention to.
