“The road to Ensenada is plenty wide and fast” says Lyle Lovett but he wasn’t speaking about the preparations for the Baja 1000 currently underway with the race team I’ll be accompanying. First off, if you don’t know what the Baja 1000 is you really ought to view this trailer to the definitive Baja 1000 movie, Dust to Glory. I’m riding down to Ensenada, on the Baja Peninsula of Mexico, with Rsenal Racing to write about the event and the team’s efforts for the variety of motorcycle publications I write for.

Cowichan Valley rider Don Hatton, has entered the 2009 Morocco Rally set to start October 19, 2009, as he charts his return to Dakar. “I’m glad to be racing again” Don says. Don Hatton explains the damage the Dakar wrought. He was severely injured on stage 5 of the 2009 Dakar Rally held in Argentina in January 2009.

Welcome to another edition of TGIF here at SEP. It’s mid-October and today I spotted the first signs of Christmas in the shops: mince pies, cards, yule log and decorations. It’s terrifying. I feel rushed. On the other hand I do love Lebkuchen so there is a silver lining to everything. Don’t let it all fool you though, there are many weekends to go till Christmas and lots and lots of stuff to do till the year is out. I hope your week has been a good one and that you’ve got fun things to look forward to.

The legendary Suzuki Hayabusa celebrated its tenth birthday in fine style at the weekend, as fans from across the UK and mainland europe converged on Santa Pod Raceway in Northamptonshire to celebrate a decade at the top. Run in conjunction with the Straightliners Championship, the weekend, supported by Suzuki GB, encouraged owners of the Hayabusa to participate both on and off the track, thanks to the unique ‘Run What You Brung’ class of racing, that allows anyone to try their hand at drag racing.

Today (Friday), Oct. 16 Hike by pumpkin light on Friday night. The Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy ’s 19th annual Halloween Night Hike , will be held tonight and Saturday, every 15 minutes, beginning at 6:15 p.m. through 7:45 p.m. On a pumpkin-lit trail, hikers will meet five different night animals and their young.

2009 International Eco Enduro The eGrandPrix is not the only electric motorcycle race series the FIM is working with this year. Moto pros Ivan Reedtz-Thott, Soren Clauding and Christian Primby are organizing the 2009 International Eco Enduro that will run in Denmark on December 11 – 13. The purpose of the race is to support and demonstrate environmentally responsible motorsports racing and will happen the same week of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP15 ).

I was a Boy Scout, and later did a fair amount of camping when I toured the US by motorcycle in the late 1980s. My tents started floorless and without mosquito netting; progressed to canvas umbrella tent with both. Later still, I was able to go to ripstop nylon “pup” style tents. Advancing, finally, to modern shock-corded aluminum poles and nylon. After a long gap of 20+ years, my son is now a scout, and I’m on the “no-other-parent-can-go-and-we’ll-have-to-cancel-if-you-don’t-volunteer” rotation for his troop.

I’ve been watching wrestling for about 12 years now. In that time, I have seen many iterations of the same characters. I have seen Rocky Mavia turn into The Rock. I have seen Hunter Hearst Helmsley turn into Triple H. I have seen Hogan go Hollywood and back multiple times. Basically, I have seen a lot (and can tell you the main event of most Pay Per Views off the top of my head if you name the show).

(this is Meredith) Let me tell you a little story about my day. It actually started out well! We went to the Community Center with some of our twin buddies and played and played and played. Then we went home for naptime. Naptime has become quite the non-event since the children were freed from their cages. I can leave them in there for an hour and a half and all I hear is random bangs and thumps and lot of giggles. No sleeping. So today I put them in their room for their “nap”, and left them there for 45 minutes.

The legendary Austrian skier Hermann Maier retired on Tuesday, ending his illustrious career at age 36. Among his many accomplishments – it would be tedious to list them all here – the greatest might have been returning to the top of his sport after nearly losing his leg in a horrific motorcycle accident in 2001. He recounted that event in his terrific autobiography, ” The Race of My Life .” Here’s the epic crash that cemented Maier’s international reputation as a tough guy.

Fatigue – that’s a word you hear being thrown about a lot at endurance racing events. We know that as drivers do long stints behind the wheel, fatigue starts setting in and the lap times start to drop steadily. But the $64,000 question is how long can a driver stay out on track without compromising the performance of his/her car or the safety of the other competitors. People keep throwing around the statistic of F1 drivers having an average heart rate of 170 bpm for the 90 odd minute duration of the race.

AMA Racing: American Motorcyclist Association _ The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has announced that it has entered into a multi-year agreement with the AMA-chartered Dayton Motorcycle Club to host and promote the annual AMA Racing Hillclimb Grand Championships . Filed under: Country News Iron horses were raising a ruckus Sunday at a Harley Davidson store just south of Nashville, as Dierks Bentley and a thousand fellow motorcycle enthusiasts prepared to embark on his fourth annual Miles & Music for Kids celebrity ride. “This event is to help parents not have to worry about where the money is coming from and be able to concentrate on their child who has to be at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital,” Dierks told The Boot in an interview prior to the ride.

Every year the Dayton Motorcycle Club puts on the Devil’s Staircase Motorcycle hill climb. In fact this was the 60th running in 62 years (2 years were cancelled due to weather). Now I haven’t been in 20+ years but it seemed like a good thing to do this year since our late summer endurance rally ( The Void ) was cancelled. So here we go. Always fun to park your bike in a muddy cow pasture. We were there early but not too early. This field would be full in a couple hours.
