T he big motorcycle show, Italy’s EICMA, will be happening in 20 days. Traditionally, this is a show that always brings some surprises for the new year. So, what’s up this year? Obviously, Aprilia will be rolling out the RSV4 and RSV4-R. That’s a no-brainer. BMW might be an interesting presence this year. The rumors of what is going to happen with the R-Series bikes has been rampant, with everything from a new 1300cc boxer, to the 1200cc boxer getting an update with the 130HP DOHC motor

Billy Corgan, Kerry Brown, and Mark Tulin have formed another one-off band to perform in Los Angeles under less-than-joyous circumstances. A press release says the three will play under the name “Backwards Clock Society” at an event to benefit Laura Ann Masura, the operator (ca. 1993) of the short-lived Smashing Pumpkins Fan Club, who suffered a severe leg injury in a motorcycle crash last month.

Adventure Comics #3? Featuring Superboy By Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul Published by DC Comics Adventure Comics has a story that is synonymous with its name in more ways than one. Superboy’s world-traversing adventure nicely parallels an inner journey. When writing the Super Family there are certain guidelines or bullet points that make the stories what they are. Generally writers take from one and use it on the other; some build and expand on the mythos. This is what Adventure Comics sets out to do to an extent.

It’s not only about the ride. The ride is great. But after spending parts of several weeks bringing a thirty-year-old motorcycle back to life, I’ve discovered it’s also about the joy of working with your hands, the smells of the garage and the sound of a motor roaring to life after a long, long sleep. Tactile. Auditory. Visual. Visceral. The 1977 BMW R100RS sat idle for at least ten years. I started it once or twice in that time, but rubber bushings had deteriorated, water had collected in the transmission, brake pads had become soiled, electrical connections corroded.

Soon after returning to Paris in September 1944 Martha Gellhorn received a very friendly phone call from her estranged husband inviting her out to dinner with a few friends. Martha, who, strange as it may seem, still had a very soft spot for Ernest – and perhaps expected him to become again the man she first met back in 1936 – accepted his invitation, probably because she was feeling lonely and afraid. The evening started off well enough, with Ernest describing his adventures with Lanham, and his first steps back onto German territory since the 1920s.

During these moments, a little inspiration goes a long way. It was a cold and sometimes drizzly and blustery day in central Virginia Saturday, but that didn’t mean the struggles we face take a holiday… just because it’s inconvenient or uncomfortable to be out and about, the struggles do not end. The first event of the day began with the “Can You Hear Us Now” gathering outside the Richmond NBC affiliate. I chose Channel 12 because, unlike the other two stations, this one wasn’t located in on of the “nicer” sections of town.

I’ve covered this before, but it’s worth going over again. Here’s how one rider reported an incident: “when the police pulled the CCTV footage I had less than the length of a white van to stop. Because I was already covering the brakes I managed to just start braking as I saw her start to accelerate but unfortunately didn’t notice anything to suggest she was about to move off.” This is fairly typical of the “looked but didn’t see” accidents that involve bikes and other road users at junctions.

Everybody likes to cite the Iranian protests as a great example of how the Internet and Social Media was able to bypass censorship and narrate a powerful, fast-shifting story to the world. But how much do we really know about what was happening online and how journalists outside of Iran connected to the Online information? In this study for her dissertation at the LSE Media and Communications Department Claudia Schoenbohm looked at a range of news website and spoke to a group of online journalists to find out how they networked their coverage to the citizen journalism flooding out of Iran.

Motorcycle tires are very important on your motorcycle. They are one of the few things that comes between you and the road in the event of an emergency stop. They also keep you from hydroplaning in wet conditions, and can keep you comfortable on that long trip. So how do you know if you need new tires?
1. Hole or Leak
This probably seems like a very obvious choice, but sometimes you have to state the obvious. It is possible to just plug a hole, but this should be done from the inside out, not the outside in.

San Francisco-based Mission Motors unveiled its Mission One electric streetbike prototype last winter. At that time, Product Manager Jeremy Cleland claimed that the bike would achive 150 mph. That was their minimum target. Cleland himself rode the Mission One prototype to a new AMA electric motorcycle speed record of 150.059 mph at the BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials on the Bonneville Salt Flats on September 1, 2009. This record speed represents the average of two flying passes through Bonneville’s mile-long speed trap.

A mob crowding around the Rapha tent bidding to purchase all of the rider’s kit and gear What a week it was! Working with the Rapha team and getting a behind-the-scenes look at a relatively large stage race was one of the coolest experiences of my life. While there are a lot of people who love riding motorcycles and the great fuel economy they offer there is also a large number of people that are afraid of them and who just will not ride them regardless of the fact that gas prices are sky rocketing right now.
For those who are apprehensive about riding a motorcycle a great alternative is the electric scooter and with the popularity of these right now it is a good business to get into if you can find a reputable wholesale scooter vendor to buy them from.

Electric bicycles occupy a strange vehicular netherland. Outfitted with pedals and other low-speed components, they’re more bicycle than motorcycle. But their motors prompt scorn among cycling purists, and their relatively high cost makes them a hard sell for the masses. Powered but not especially powerful, these bicycles-that-aren’t-really-bicycles occupy a niche within a niche, appealing to an already small minority within the country’s huge bicycling population – those who use their two wheels to commute rather than recreate.

Welcome to another edition of TGIF here at SEP. It’s mid-October and today I spotted the first signs of Christmas in the shops: mince pies, cards, yule log and decorations. It’s terrifying. I feel rushed. On the other hand I do love Lebkuchen so there is a silver lining to everything. Don’t let it all fool you though, there are many weekends to go till Christmas and lots and lots of stuff to do till the year is out. I hope your week has been a good one and that you’ve got fun things to look forward to.

Motorcycle riders often extol the virtues of riding their vehicles on the open roads, especially given the freedom and maneuverability that most motorbikes provide. Due to their small size and relatively lightweight frame, people who enjoy riding motorcycles can often enjoy a riding experience that other vehicles cannot provide. Regardless of whether you operate a motorcycle, car, truck, or other vehicle, it is essential to establish adequate auto insurance coverage for your vehicle.

I was a Boy Scout, and later did a fair amount of camping when I toured the US by motorcycle in the late 1980s. My tents started floorless and without mosquito netting; progressed to canvas umbrella tent with both. Later still, I was able to go to ripstop nylon “pup” style tents. Advancing, finally, to modern shock-corded aluminum poles and nylon. After a long gap of 20+ years, my son is now a scout, and I’m on the “no-other-parent-can-go-and-we’ll-have-to-cancel-if-you-don’t-volunteer” rotation for his troop.
